Charton Manor
Charton Manor provides 24-hour, short-term, Christian Science nursing care to men and women aged 18 and over who have chosen to rely solely upon the Bible-based method of spiritual healing, Christian Science. Set in the Kent countryside on six and a half acres, 5 minutes south of Junction 3 of the London Orbital Motorway (the M25) and only 30 minutes’ train ride from the centre of London; the facility is staffed around the clock by Christian Science nurses covering three shifts; each one supervised by a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse. Christian Science nursing services at Charton Manor also include out-patient facilities. All our patients’ rooms have en-suite facilities.
Although classified as a ‘personal care’ home under the Care Standards Act 2000, Charton Manor does not provide long-term nursing accommodation. The categorisation of Charton Manor as a ‘personal care’ home is because Christian Science nursing is non-medical and the distinction between medical and non-medical nursing has determined the UK Government’s designations.
At any time, a patient has the right to leave and choose another method of health care, in which case every effort would be expended by Charton Manor to assist the patient to gain access to the care of their choice.
Charton Manor also has ten en-suite rooms for active ‘reformers’ (see Message to TMC June 1901 page 28:29-10) who are members of TMC wishing to live in a unique environment. The primary purpose is to facilitate the healing practice of Christian Science.
Charton Manor also offers ‘Rest and Study’ accommodation – a time for inspirational study and quiet.
Also, based at Charton Manor is the Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service, London Field meeting the nursing needs of Christian Scientists in their own home. The service covers London and the South East of England.
Our Christian Science Nurses Training Centre provides a programme of Christian Science nurses training comprised of four separate courses focusing on the practice of Christian Science nursing at an introductory, basic, advance and supervisory level.
