Charton Manor
Set on six and a half acres just south of Junction 3 of the London Orbital Motorway (the M25), Charton Manor provides 24-hour, short-term, Christian Science nursing care to men and women aged 18 and over who have chosen to rely solely upon the Bible-based method of spiritual healing, Christian Science. The facility is staffed around the clock by Christian Science nurses over three shifts, each one supervised by a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse. All rooms (sixteen single and one double) have en-suite facilities.
Charton Manor has always accepted patients with all manner of afflictions and injuries, no matter how acute or traumatic, should it be the wish of the patient to rely on Christian Science treatment rather than medical treatment for their condition. Christian Science nursing services at Charton Manor also include out-patient facilities.
No medical processes, remedies or interventions are undertaken at Charton Manor. As there are no consultations with doctors or associated medical professionals, there is no diagnosis or prognosis of a patient’s affliction or injury. At any time, a patient has the right to leave and choose another method of health care, in which case every effort would be expended by Charton Manor to assist the patient to gain access to the care of their choice.
Although classified as a ‘personal care’ home under the Care Standards Act 2000, Charton Manor is more like a non-medical hospital and therefore does not provide long-term accommodation. The categorisation of Charton Manor as a ‘personal care’ home is due to the fact that Christian Science nursing is non-medical and the distinction between medical and non-medical nursing has determined the Government’s designations.
